RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — CBS 17 Storm Team Meteorologist Rachel Duensing visited fifth graders at Poe Elementary School in Raleigh Friday afternoon.
The weather team spent the afternoon talking about the atmosphere and how wind flows from high pressure into low pressure (and demonstrating that using an air cannon!) Students also learned about the different instruments that meteorologists use to collect weather data like balloons, airplanes, satellites and radar. They also talked about our main weather threats in Central North Carolina including hurricanes and tornadoes, which they were very interested in.
The fifth graders even tried their hand at a forecasting exercise and did very well.
The CBS 17 Storm Team thanks Poe Elementary School for asking them to speak with their students, and they also thank the students for being a great audience!
