RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- The winter storm that hit North Carolina Friday into early Saturday morning was weak in the Triangle with less than an inch of snowfall in Wake County.
But, elsewhere, the North Carolina mountains received a significant snowfall.
Some areas of the mountains had up to 9 inches of snow from the storm, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters said 1 to 3 inches more snow could fall Saturday in the highest elevations.
Parts of central North Carolina also had some ice from freezing rain that fell following an early period of snow on Friday. There were some power outages in areas of central North Carolina but no widespread problems.
