RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Local governments in central North Carolina will close their offices ahead of a winter storm Wednesday that is expected to bring snow and sleet to the region.
Closures were announced by the following local governments:
County offices
Cumberland County: All government offices and the court system will be closed Wednesday. The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will contact individuals with WIC program and clinic appointments to reschedule accordingly.
Franklin County: Government offices, including solid waste convenience centers and library branches, will be closed Wednesday.
Wake County: All non-essential facilities will be closed to the public Wednesday, including Wake County parks, libraries, and solid waste facilities. They will reopen at noon Thursday, pending improved road conditions. Essential personnel, including law enforcement, EMS, and other first responders will remain on duty.
Wayne County: All non-essential government offices will be closed, including all branches of the Wayne County Public Library, the Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center, the Wayne County Animal Shelter, and the Wayne County landfill and convenience centers.
City/Town offices
Cary: Town Hall and all recreation and cultural arts facilities will be closed Wednesday. Programming is also canceled. GoCary will not operate Wednesday. Curbside collection remains as scheduled until further notice as of Tuesday night.
Fayetteville: Administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, along with City Hall, Parks and Recreation facilities and gated parks, and the Cares Day Resource Center. FAST services operations will begin on their regular schedule and conclude at noon. All will reopen Thursday at noon. Solid waste services will be delayed until roads are safe for crews. The Salvation Army will open at noon Wednesday for those who need shelter.
Garner: Town offices and facilities will be closed to the public Wednesday. Park gates will remain closed until further notice Tuesday night. Solid waste collection will be on regular schedule Wednesday and crews intend to remain on schedule for Thursday.
Holly Springs: Town offices and facilities, including Town Hall and the Hunt and Cultural centers, will be closed Wednesday. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection will be adjusted for the week.
Morrisville: All town facilities will be closed Wednesday, with a tentative reopening Thursday at 10 a.m. The Morrisville Community Library will also be closed, with a tentative reopening Thursday at noon. The Morrisville Smart Shuttle will not operate Wednesday.
Pittsboro: All town offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday. Depending on weather impacts, the closure may extend to Thursday.
Sanford: Administrative offices will be closed Wednesday. Waste collection services Wednesday will begin at 5:30 a.m. If suspended early, the services will resume Thursday. Leaf, limb, and bulk trash collection crews will operate on their regular schedule as conditions allow. The Tough Day Golf Tournament will not be held Saturday, with the greens expected to be covered until Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.
Wendell: Non-essential offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday. All programs for Wednesday are canceled.
