January returned to central North Carolina on Sunday, and the colder weather is sticking around for Monday as well. Afternoon temps will be a little warmer, in the mid-50s, after a cold start in the 20s.
We'll warm back up well into the 60s on Tuesday, with a sunny start. Clouds will build throughout the day, and we'll end the day mostly cloudy.
Those clouds are a precursor to our next weather maker, set to arrive on Wednesday. Showers and storms are expected during the day Wednesday, with severe weather possible.
The main impacts will be rain and wind. Damaging straight line winds will be the primary threat, but a spin-up tornado within the line of storms can't be ruled out.
Cooler, quieter weather returns Thursday and Friday with highs back in the 50s, gradually warming again heading into next weekend.
Another system is possible next weekend, especially Saturday night into Sunday, but the latest trends keep most of that rain away from us in central NC.
FORECAST
MONDAY will be sunny and slightly warmer. The high will be 55. Winds will be light.
MONDAY NIGHT will be clear and cool. The low will be 36. Winds will be light.
TUESDAY will be warmer with increasing clouds. The high will be 68. Winds will be south at 10 mph.
