RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Did your car look like this after coming out of your dinner plans Friday night? Maybe you went out to your car Saturday morning and thought it was cleaner than that before you went to bed!

Central North Carolina had to deal with something that's referred to as "dirty rain" Friday night, and it's thanks to something that developed almost completely across the country.

It all started Thursday around western Texas and eastern Mexico. In this area, dry, windy weather created dust storms called haboobs, (and possibly a few wildfires) were ongoing.

By Thursday evening into Friday, strong winds would pick up that dusty air and put it over top of us in central North Carolina.

By the time we had light rain falling Friday night, those rain drops picked up the dust and smoke particles and literally rained it down on us, leaving this mess on some of our cars.

It's a very interesting weather fact, but also very annoying for those of us who had to spend time washing our cars over the weekend.
