Central NC Tornado Watch expires Sunday: NWS

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch on Sunday morning as a severe storm swept through central NC.

According to NWS, the following counties were under a Tornado Watch until 2 p.m. when it expired:

  • Chatham
  • Durham
  • Edgecombe
  • Franklin
  • Granville
  • Halifax
  • Johnston
  • Nash
  • Orange
  • Person
  • Vance
  • Wake
  • Warren
  • Wayne
  • Wilson

Central NC was in danger of facing tornadoes similar to the ones seen in the central portion of the U.S. in North Carolina.

Multiple counties were also under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from the National Weather Service on Sunday as the storm approached, moving at 30 mph.

Closer to the expiration of the advisory, Lee, Moore, Orange, Durham, and Person county nixed their Tornado Watch.

Although the watch and the wind advisory has expired, there will still be breezy winds throughout the rest of the day Sunday in central NC.
