RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an increased fire danger advisory Friday in central NC as the whole state is under a burn ban.
From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. when the increased fire danger is in effect, NWS said the western and central North Carolina Piedmont and Sandhills regions have the worst conditions for a possibly uncontrollable outside fire.
Counties affected by this increased fire danger include:
- Person
- Granville
- Orange
- Durham
- Chatham
- Wake
- Moore
- Lee
- Harnett
- Scotland
- Hoke
- Cumberland

Wind gusts could blow west to northwest between 15 to 25 mph, and adding low relative humidity values between 15 to 25 percent and dry conditions — despite low amounts of rain yesterday — could cause a widespread fire, according to NWS.
CBS 17 previously reported that the North Carolina Forest Service has issued a burn ban for the entire state of North Carolina, effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21 until further notice.
Any open burning, regardless of whether anyone has a burn permit or not, is prohibited until the ban is lifted.
