RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A freeze warning is set to go into effect for much of central North Carolina as temperatures will feel more like January than April on Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the advisory on Tuesday, as sub-freezing temperatures are expected to hit the Triangle and surrounding areas. It’s slated to last from 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

NWS officials said the following central North Carolina counties will be impacted:

  • Person
  • Granville
  • Vance
  • Warren
  • Halifax
  • Orange
  • Durham
  • Franklin
  • Nash
  • Edgecombe
  • Chatham
  • Wake
  • Johnston
  • Wilson
  • Moore
  • Lee
  • Harnett
  • Wayne

Wednesday will be the coldest morning of the week, with lows dropping into the low to mid-30s across the Triangle and even colder in outlying areas.

Temperatures could lower to below freezing, which may kill certain crops and sensitive plants, as well as possibly damaging unprotected outdoor plumbing.
