RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of CBS 17's viewing area Thursday night has expired, but some counties remain under a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight.
The central NC counties affected by the watch include:
- Cumberland
- Harnett
- Johnston
- Sampson
At 9:48 p.m., the National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a severe thunderstorm warning that expired at 10:45 p.m. for the following areas:
- southwestern Wake County
- southwestern Johnston County
- southeastern Moore County
- eastern Chatham County
- Cumberland County
- Harnett County
- Hoke County
- Lee County
According to NWS Raleigh, wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour were possible with the incoming line of storms. Locations under the warning area included Fayetteville, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Sanford, Southern Pines and Pittsboro, among others.
Thursday is a CBS 17 Alert Day, with much of the Triangle and surrounding areas under a Level 2 risk for severe weather throughout the night.
