RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service in Raleigh for select counties in central North Carolina on Thursday has been canceled.
Around 4:26 p.m., Wayne, southwestern Wilson, and Johnston counties were issued a severe thunderstorm warning after a severe thunderstorm was located near Smithfield, moving at around 15 m.p.h. The thunderstorm warning expired at 5:30 p.m.
At 5:05 p.m., the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several North Carolina counties, including Wake, Wayne, Vance, and Person.

According to the NWS, the thunderstorm watch area stretched from Lynchburg, Va. to Roanoke Rapids.
The NWS canceled the severe thunderstorm warning for central North Carolina and the rest of the forecast area at 9:13 p.m.
