Severe thunderstorm warning issued for several central NC counties

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several counties in central North Carolina on Thursday evening.

The latest warning was issued at 9:54 p.m. for Nash County, northeastern Wake County, northwestern Wilson County, northeastern Johnston County and Franklin County. It's set to be in effect until 10:45 p.m.

At 6:34 p.m. Thursday, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southern Cumberland County. It lasted until 7:15 p.m.

Weather officials said people in the area could see quarter-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 60 mph. They said hail damage to vehicle is expected as well as wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

At 4:48 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for northern Orange County and southwestern Person County. It expired at 5:30 p.m.

Weather officials said people in the area may see maximum wind gusts of 60 mph, which could potentially damage roofs, siding and trees.
