RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service has issued multiple Tornado Warnings and Flash Flood warnings in parts of central North Carolina due to Tropical Depression Chantal.

A severe thunderstorm was most recently located by NWS around 1:30 p.m. near Farmville and moving at 25 mph. Another rotation was seen near Lillington at 1:50 p.m., which officials said could arrive in Sanford around 2 p.m.

Officials demand that folks in the area take cover now. "Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris."

NWS has also issued a Flash Flood warning for multiple counties in central NC. Around 1:22 p.m., they located thunderstorms producing heavy rain between 1 to 3 inches in portions of Moore, Richmond, Hoke and Harnett counties.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads," the advisory said. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles."

Severe flooding is also at risk until Sunday evening for central NC in the midst of CBS 17's Alert Day. There has been an ongoing Flood Watch advisory since Chantal was set for landfall earlier Sunday morning.

More to come soon, so stay tuned to CBS 17!
