RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- As parts of central North Carolina were under a severe thunderstorm watch Wednesday evening, two counties were placed under a severe thunderstorm warning.
At 7 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for west central Sampson County and southern Cumberland County until 7:30 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
Just after 7 p.m., the weather service reported a severe thunderstorm was located near Tobermory, or 14 miles south of Fayetteville, moving east at 35 mph.
Forecasters warned of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail as the severe storms moved through.

"Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees," the warning said.
Towns and cities impacted by the warning include Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Roseboro, Stedman, Autryville, Vander, Bushy Lake Natural Area, and Cedar Creek.
