RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- Nearly 1,000 customers were without power in central North Carolina and some crashes were reported Sunday afternoon as a severe storm system moved through the Raleigh area.
More than 800 Duke Energy customers were in the dark following the storms, with more than 700 in one area of Granville County, northwest of Oxford. As of 2 p.m., most outages were repaired with only about 100 customers without power in central North Carolina.
Earlier, high winds knocked down tree limbs that took out power to about 1,600 customers in the Pittsboro area, according to the National Weather Service and Duke Energy.
A crash during the storms closed part of Interstate 85 in Durham for about an hour.

Also during the storms, a wreck in Raleigh closed part of Interstate 440 near Lake Boone Trail.
The Durham wreck was reported around 12:30 p.m. on northbound I-85 at Exit 178, which is for I-885, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
A DOT camera at U.S. 70 showed two wrecked cars and an ambulance.
Two lanes were initially closed but all northbound lanes were closed about 15 minutes after the wreck. The highway reopened around 1:25 p.m.

In Raleigh, a crash was reported just after 12:20 p.m. on I-440 W at Mile Marker 5 Near Lake Boone Trail, according to the NCDOT.
An NCDOT camera showed cars avoiding an area near the shoulder around 1 p.m.
