RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a flash flood warning Sunday afternoon for areas of Wake County.
The warning came after 2 inches of rain from severe storms that moved through central North Carolina Sunday morning and early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning was issued just after 2:50 p.m. for Wake County until 6 p.m.
"Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area," the warning said. "Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly."
Areas in the warning include Raleigh, Cary, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Zebulon, RDU International, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, Knightdale, Wendell, Rolesville and Lake Benson.

Other areas in the warning include Lake Wheeler, William B Umstead State Park, Purnell, Falls Lake, New Hill and Harris Lake Boat Launch.
Earlier storms Sunday caused nearly 1,000 power outages and two crashes were reported, with one each in Durham and Raleigh.
