RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A slow-moving area of low pressure is expected to bring rounds of rain to central North Carolina over the next several days.

The CBS 17 Storm Team reported that light showers are expected during the morning and afternoon hours on Mother's Day, but hopefully they clear out in time for dinner plans for mom.

However, much more widespread and heavier rain is in the forecast on Monday and Tuesday. A medium risk of flash flooding is in effect each day, as heavy rain is possible both days.

Rain totals will likely be in the 2-4" range from Sunday through Wednesday as this low pressure system won't be in any hurry to move into the Atlantic Ocean.

Some storms will be possible Tuesday morning, but we aren't too concerned about the severe weather threat right now.

Flash flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas will likely be the main threat, especially with areas that see rounds of heavy rain. A larger medium threat of flash flooding is expected on Monday, but there is a similar threat Tuesday with more excessive rain.

As for Mother's Day, light showers could put a damper on any Sunday outside plans. It is advised to consider back-up plans for any outdoor activities on Monday or Tuesday.

In the timespan Monday and Tuesday, this will likely be the wettest stretch across central NC since Hurricane Helene brought heavy rain in late September last year.

Stay tuned to the CBS 17 Storm Team for more on weather!
