RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a flood watch for parts of central North Carolina that goes into effect Tuesday night and lasts until Wednesday morning.
Officials said a flood watch means flash flooding is possible in the watch area.
The flood watch begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday and is for several counties in central North Carolina, including Durham, Franklin, Granville, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake and Warren.
"Heavy rain and flooding will be possible," the National Weather Service said in the watch. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations."

Earlier Tuesday, a flash flood warning was issued for part of Durham County when up to 4 inches of rain were possible before noon.
The cities included in the flood watch are: Norlina, Durham, Apex, Warrenton, Louisburg, Franklinton, Wake Forest, Carrboro, Roxboro, Hillsborough, Cary, Rougemont, Creedmoor, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Oxford, Henderson, Mebane, High Point, and Knightdale.
